Foods to enjoy and avoid if you have Rosacea

Rosacea is commonly seen as a red blushing on the face with bumps. Rosacea often occurs on cheeks, nose, chin and the forehead with broken blood vessels occasionally appearing through the skin which can thicken and swell up.

Rosacea can commonly flare up for weeks and then disappear. Getting treatment for rosacea is essential however there are some steps you can take to diminish its appearance starting with your diet.

What to avoid

Pungent or sour vegetables: these vegetables include tomatoes, hot peppers, carrots, beets, eggplant, onions, radishes and spinach

Specific Drinks: these drinks include alcohol and hot tea or coffee. These drinks can dilate blood vessels in which contribute to facial redness.

Histamine Foods: foods that release histamine such as citrus fruits are essential to avoid.

Sugar and Starch: Sugary and starch foods can cause additional bumps and redness on the face.

Warming Spices: Spices such as ginger, cumin, black pepper, fenugreek and cloves all cause an anti-inflammatory response in the body.

Beef and seafood.

Mild vegetables: vegetables such as asparagus, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, pumpkins, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, okra, lettuce, green beans and zucchini.

Soothing Spices: coriander, cardamom, saffron and fennel.

Salmon: the omega 3 oils are a superfood for anti-inflammation and are great for decreasing redness.

Goat Cheese: goats cheese is a good source of protein and is easy to digest. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory.

Turkey and Chicken: turkey and chicken are great sources of protein however are to be kept in moderation.
